Bulgaria is an important transit country for neighboring countries that receive Azerbaijani gas through its territory. This is what the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev told journalists in Baku, BTA reported. According to Aliyev, the number of countries that will benefit from this will increase.

Bulgarian Head of State Rumen Radev is on an official visit to Azerbaijan at his invitation. Earlier today, the two presidents spoke privately and signed a document to strengthen mutual cooperation between the two countries.

Aliyev emphasized that Bulgaria and Azerbaijan have been strategic partners since 2015, and since then relations between the two countries have been developing dynamically. Political dialogue and engagement allows expanding relations between Bulgaria and Azerbaijan in all spheres of interest, noted Aliyev.

Trade exchange is multiplying, with one of the main drivers for this being cooperation in the energy sector. There are promising opportunities for future energy cooperation in gas supplies, Aliyev said. He emphasized that the supply of natural gas increases every year. Last year we had 1.2 billion cubic meters delivered to the Bulgarian market, while in 2022 it was only 600 billion cubic meters. This year, according to expectations, we will have provided 1.5 billion cubic meters to Bulgaria, he pointed out. According to him, this will cover about 50% of our country’s gas consumption.

We have always strived for better results to strengthen trade, cooperation in the energy sector as a clear sign of our success, Aliyev also said.

Regarding the project for the underwater electric cable under the Black Sea, which would supply green Azeri energy to Europe, Aliyev said that the design study will be completed within a few months, which will mark the beginning of real work and work on the project. Azerbaijan will be not only a supplier of oil and gas, but also of green energy, Aliyev said.

Thanks to investments from Azerbaijan, the railway line is being modernized. The project has been started, and today we see that it is becoming an important part of the middle corridor, Aliyev also said.
