Avi Even and Yannis Sapropoulos (Itzik Belnitsky)
Yannis Sapropoulos on his way out of Maccabi Tel Aviv. The management of the Yellow Club will convene today (Tuesday) following the relegation in the Cup semi-final with the 90:80 loss to Hapoel Tel Aviv, which was the third in the derby games this season, and it seems that there is a majority in the management for the dismissal of the Greek coach. The lack of success this season and the instability will probably lead to parting from the coach when the one who is supposed to replace him in such a situation is the head of the club’s scouting division, Avi Even.
The Yellows, as reported later in the season, do not find any available foreign coaches on the market who can be brought in right now and in such a situation it seems that they would prefer to give the stone the reins. Yannis, 54, was appointed coach of the Yellows in November 2018, when he replaced Nevan Spahija. With the Greeks the Yellows won three championships, two Winner’s Cups and one National Cup, but failed to qualify for the next round of the Euroleague. Precisely when they managed to do so in the 2019/20 season, the season was stopped and did not continue due to the corona plague.
