Thomas Tuchel, Bayern Munich coach, expressed his extreme anger after his team was eliminated from the Champions League semi-finals.
Bayern suffered a dramatic loss to Real Madrid, 2-1, on Wednesday evening, in the second leg of the semi-final, which was held at the Bernabeu Stadium, after being ahead by one goal.
Tuchel said in statements after the match to DAZN: “It is painful and will take some time to recover, but on the other hand, this is a defeat during which we gave everything on the field.”
He added: “Of course, it is difficult to accept the matter. This is part of the truth, but we do not feel regret. On the other hand, there were many injuries, changes, and many muscle injuries. We started the match with four players in front and ended the match with all of them leaving.”
In other statements reported by BeIN Sports, Tuchel said: “We are very disappointed and angry at the recent decision of the referee, who blew the whistle without confirming whether the player was in offside position or not. It is difficult to accept this decision.”
He continued: “When you are ahead in the score against Real Madrid, you must be attentive to the last minute and not be content with 88 minutes. Today’s matter was strange. The mistake was committed by a man whom we have not seen making mistakes in the past (Neuer), and they in turn succeeded in scoring in the last minutes.”
He continued: “But there was a disastrous decision by the referee. This is something that cannot happen in a match of this value. There are no excuses. The assistant referee apologized for the mistake, but the mistake is double.”
He concluded: “You cannot raise the flag without making sure, and the referee also knows that there is an opportunity to score. I do not accept this decision.”
