The European Union has approved a new system for next year’s edition of the Champions League.

According to what was reported by many media outlets, “the 2024-2025 Champions League competitions will be the stage for a larger number of participating teams, from 32 to 36 seats.”

The draw for the group stage in the Champions League will be held under the new system on August 29, 2024, with the matches starting on September 17 of this year.

For the teams qualifying for the 2024-2025 Champions LeagueShe is:

  • England: From the English Premier League, Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool are guaranteed to participate in the Champions League, and fourth place is still between Aston Villa and Tottenham.
  • Spain: Real Madrid, Barcelona and Girona have clinched their qualification cards for the Champions League, after occupying the first three places in the Spanish League, while the identity of the fourth-placed club has not yet been decided.
  • Italy: Both Inter and its neighbor Milan have officially qualified, and 3 other Serie A clubs are expected to participate in the tournament, after Italy was confirmed to have a fifth seat next season, thanks to the Italian League clubs being the best performers in Europe this season.
  • Germany: 5 teams officially qualified for the Champions League, namely Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich, Stuttgart, Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund, where the Bundesliga also received an additional seat after coming second behind Italy as the best European performer.
  • France: Both champion Paris Saint-Germain and runner-up Monaco officially qualified, and “Ligue 1” obtained a third seat in the new edition, after finishing fifth in the world rankings, and this seat is still undecided between Brest Stadium and Lille.
  • Netherlands: The Dutch League champion and runner-up reserved the direct seats, namely PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord, respectively.
  • Portugal: The Portuguese league champion reserved the direct seat for the Champions League, which is Sporting Lisbon, and as for Belgium, Turkey and the Czech Republic, the league champion has not yet been determined.

According to the new system, the teams will be divided as follows:

  • 32 teams qualify according to the European league classification: (champion from 1-10), (runner-up from 1-6), (third and fourth from 1-4), 6 places in the qualifiers, champion of the Champions League, champion of the European League).
  • 4 additional seats will be determined based on the following criteria:

– One seat for the club that occupies third place in the country ranked fifth on the continent (currently the French League).

– One seat for the club that won the league in its country by increasing the number of clubs qualified through the “Champions Path” from 4 to 5, according to Russia Today channel.

– Two final seats go to the countries whose clubs achieved the best collective results in the previous season “2023-2024”, so that the total number of points obtained is divided by the number of participating clubs, which are the two leagues (Italian and German).
