The leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, called on Spaniards this Thursday to vote “in legitimate defense” in the European elections on June 9, “against the egocentrism” that, in his opinion, represents the president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and former president Carles Puigdemont.
This was stated at the presentation ceremony of the PP’s European candidacy, held at the Sant Pau Modernist Precinct in Barcelona, together with the president of the European People’s Party, Manfred Weber, and the popular candidate for the elections to the European Parliament, Dolors Montserrat. , and the head of the PP list in the Catalan elections of May 12, Alejandro Fernández. “We are going to give voice to the interests of all Spaniards in Europe against those who have used it as a refuge or platform for their selfishness or egocentrism,” proclaimed Feijóo, who has also committed to giving a voice to the Spaniards to whom the Socialism and the independence movement have “relegated them to second-class citizens.”
According to Feijóo, “June 9 is the best date for Spain to respond in legitimate defense and legitimate hope for the future it deserves.”
“Spain is much more than a single person, although he has a high opinion of himself and wants a country tailored to him and at his service,” he stated in reference to Sánchez, before adding: “Spain is not decided by just one person, “We all decided it.”
Feijóo has also denounced that Manfred Weber “has been insulted and disqualified” by Sánchez: “We ask you to accept the apologies of the majority of the Spanish people,” he said, addressing the president of the European People’s Party, present at the event.
For the Europeans, he highlighted, the PP has a leader like Dolors Montserrat, who “has never bowed down to the independence movement.”
Furthermore, Feijóo has warned the electorate close to the PP but who may be tempted to vote for other options: “The union of the vote multiplies the seats, the division of the vote subtracts seats.”
He has also referred to the Catalan elections next Sunday, before which the PP “continues to rise” and will take “a firm step”, which “will be big or very big.”
After the disagreements that emerged months ago between the popular leadership and the president of the PPC and candidate for the presidency of the Generalitat, Alejandro Fernández, Feijóo has explicitly closed ranks with him: “The entire party is one in Catalonia and outside of Catalonia, and that one is Alejandro Fernández”
