In a statement to MAP, the former Moroccan player noted that this feat, the first of its kind in the Arab world, is not the result of chance, but is the result of long-term work which lasted years. Added to this, she continues, are the favorable conditions provided by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) for the benefit of players, with the aim of giving greater influence to national women’s football.
Boumehdi, who previously coached the Moroccan national team under 17 and 20, having won the bronze medal at the African Games organized in Morocco, noted that what has been accomplished to date, at the level of national football testifies to the success of the strategy adopted by the FRMF, recalling in this sense the presence of eight players, who appeared in the Moroccan national team (U20), in the ranks of the Moroccan national team which qualified for the round of 16 of the Women’s World Cup (Australia – New Zealand 2023).
And to add that the feat of the Atlas Lionesses should inevitably motivate them to give the best of themselves during upcoming international competitions and games, and highlights their skills and their technical, physical and mental abilities.
The current coach of the Congolese team TP Mazembe, adds that the growth currently experienced by women’s football should encourage girls to get involved in this major project and change the perception of certain parents towards this sport as a masculine discipline by Excellency.
She also insisted on the need to support these achievements and continue the work to ensure the permanent presence of women’s football in the different editions of the World Cup, and cherish the dream of winning the supreme title.
The Moroccan women’s football team qualified for the round of 16 of the Football World Cup by beating Colombia (1-0), on the 3rd day of Group H, Thursday in Perth (Australia).
Thanks to this victory, Morocco finished second in Group H behind Colombia (6 pts each), and ahead of Germany (4 pts) and South Korea (1 pt).
