In Latvia, Prime Minister Evika Silina commented on recent Russian statements about the possible use of nuclear weapons, noting that such threats represent an attempt to intimidate countries taking part in the Global Peace Summit.
Delfi writes about this.
She stressed that such actions by Russia are not new and that NATO countries must strengthen their military capabilities in response to such provocations.
Silinya expressed confidence that strengthening NATO’s military capabilities through the development of the defense industry will help contain potential threats from Russia. She also emphasized that some countries are increasingly aware of real threats, and this allows Ukraine to have more opportunities to successfully defend its territory from aggression.
At a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, it was also stated that it was necessary to loudly emphasize that there should be no place for the use of nuclear weapons in a war with Russia.
Earlier, Kursor reported that the Russian Federation officially threatened to strike at British military bases. The Russian Foreign Ministry called on Great Britain to “think about the consequences” of its permission for Ukraine to attack Russian territory with British weapons.
According to a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry, Cameron’s words are considered by the Russian side as evidence of a serious increase in tension and confirmation of London’s increasing involvement in military operations on the side of Kyiv.
Kursor also reported that the United States reacted and gave Putin advice regarding Russia’s nuclear threats. So far the United States sees no signs that Russia will use nuclear weapons.
