A 14.22 m whale stranded last Monday April 29 in the Rio Pongo Mangrove National Park, off the coast of Taboria Island, in Boffa.

The information was reported to the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MEDD) by the local populations of the artisanal fishing port of Koba Taboria where the whale was found in a state of decomposition.

Immediately informed, the Minister of the Environment and Sustainable Development, Djami Diallo, dispatched teams to the site to bury the whale carcass.

“Madam Minister Djami Diallo has mandated her teams, including executives from the Guinean Office of National Parks and Wildlife Reserves as well as those of the Natural Mining and Environmental Resources Management Project (𝗣𝗚𝗥𝗡𝗠𝗘) to the scene, in order to to coordinate the burial operation of the said whale,” said the MEDD.

According to the Ministry “the whale in a state of decomposition was transported to be buried on Kitikata Island in a pit 15 meters wide and 7 meters deep dug by several able-bodied hands of the locality to avoid any kind of contamination »

MEDD technicians estimate that the burial operation will be carried out in 72 hours due to high tide.

The Director General of the National Center for Fisheries Sciences of Boussoura (CNSHB) Dr Tagbé Camara underlines according to the MEDD that after three (3) months, the bones of the whale will be used for scientific research and environmental education.
