At a meeting with teachers and students at the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, the Minister of Internal Affairs Kalin Stoyanov was awarded a diploma for outstanding contribution and cooperation in the field of Regional Security. The award was presented to him by Professor Dr. Kliment Naydenov – Dean of the University’s Faculty of Geology and Geography, under whose leadership Alma Mater teaches students from the “Regional Development” department.
“Today, when we celebrate Europe Day, we not only celebrate the peace and unity that the European Union symbolizes, but also emphasize our commitment to ensuring security in the region. The cooperation of our institution with Sofia University shows how important it is to integrate academic knowledge and practical experience in the field of security. In recent years, we have all witnessed more and more international conflicts and their related consequences, such as migrant crises and an increased threat of terrorism in certain regions,” said Minister Stoyanov. “With the entry of modern communication and computer technologies into the systems of ensuring security, it is very important for the Ministry of Internal Affairs to have well-prepared and highly qualified specialists to design, implement and maintain these systems.Therefore, with this joint initiative with Sofia University, we aim to provide students and young people in the country, not only knowledge, but also practical experience in these extremely relevant areas of our daily life. keep more young specialists here in our country,” Minister Stoyanov added.
“Over the past year, several master’s programs of exceptional importance in the field of Regional Security were accredited at Sofia University. These are the specialties Geo-spatial intelligence and analyses, Communication technologies in security and Geo-information technologies in crisis management,” announced Prof. Kliment Naydenov. “Together with the team of the Ministry of the Interior, we are focused on realizing an exchange of experience between the ministry’s experts and our professors, as well as to conduct internships for our students from these master’s programs, thereby providing an opportunity for young people to gain practical experience in a real environment,” added Prof. Naydenov.
