According to Sernac, Nestlé Chile warned about the illegal marketing of a product in refill format.
In response, Sernac began inspections with the Seremi de Salud Metropolitana to investigate the origin of this fake coffee.
The director of Sernac, Andrés Herrera, highlighted the damage to the original company and small companies that could acquire counterfeit products without knowing it, but above all, the damage to consumers.
The authority announced that the case will be referred to the Prosecutor’s Office. “We will refer and request the support of the Public Ministry so that those who commit this type of crimes can respond not only to consumers, but also to justice for the possible crimes they have committed,” he said.
If someone purchased this product, they should stop consuming it and request a refund or exchange at the place of purchase, proving that they purchased a counterfeit..
“It is important to highlight that these products are not from Nestlé, and those responsible for their falsification and distribution must be identified and brought to justice,” concluded the Sernac authority.
How to detect fake Nescafé bags?
- First of all, the company assures that: there is no 50-gram “refill” format that is associated with its instant coffee line (there is no Nescafé doypack, so if one is found: it is counterfeit).
- An obsolete label is also included on the product, which has not been present on coffee products of the brand involved for more than 5 years.
- Furthermore, the label does not identify the batch number or barcode of the product.
