Sacmex reserves results of contaminated water in Benito Juárez for three years

The Transparency Committee of the Mexico City Water System (Sacmex) has made the decision to reserve for a period of three years the results of the tests carried out on contaminated water in the Benito Juárez mayor’s officewith the possibility of extending this reservation for up to five years.

This measure is based on the premise that the disclosure of These results could lead to “erroneous interpretations.”

Sacmex’s determination was revealed in response to a request for information presented by the Animal Político team, who received the response that the results will not be disclosed to avoid hindering the ongoing investigation.

According to the information provided by El Sabueso de Animal Político, the Sacmex transparency committee decided to reserve the documents containing the results of the laboratory tests carried out on contaminated water extracted in the Benito Juárez mayor’s office, arguing that its disclosure could jeopardize the integrity of the ongoing investigation.

These results are part of the investigation folder related to a complaint filed by Sacmex before the Attorney General’s Office for the alleged crime of sabotageafter the discovery of contaminated water in the aforementioned demarcation.

The confidentiality of the information was approved on April 29 with a majority vote, after it was found that the disclosure of the results could compromise the ongoing investigation and, therefore, declare the exercise of criminal action.

In response to this decision, Mayor Benito Juárez has called on the City Government and the Transparency Institute to reverse the classification of information on the results of tests on contaminated water in the district, arguing that it is a human right. It is essential for residents to know the causes that led to water contamination in the area.
