The Council of Elders and Notables of Central Tripoli expressed its deep concern and astonishment at what it described as “arbitrary measures” carried out by the Libya’s Qur’an” comes to light after seven years of work”>Endowments Authority, represented by the dismissal of a number of sheikhs and imams of the mosques of Tripoli Central.
The Council indicated that these imams are known for their religiosity and morals, and they are memorizers of the Book of God who devoted their lives to teaching the Qur’an to the people of Libya.
In a statement, the Council denounced the dismissal of Sheikh Al-Mahfiz Daoud Hamza from the imam of the Abu Gharara Mosque in the Sidi Khalifa area, without giving clear reasons for this decision.
The Council affirmed the rejection of this dismissal by the people of the region and the mosque’s patrons, declaring their full solidarity with Sheikh Daoud and demanding that he remain the imam of the mosque.
The statement warned that this approach followed by the Endowments Authority by appointing imams with a method and doctrine other than the Maliki doctrine prevailing in the country would cause strife and unrest among the people of the country.
The Council also indicated that many of those appointed by the Commission are not well-known scholars of Islamic law, which raises questions about the criteria for selecting imams.
The Council of Elders and Notables of Tripoli Center concluded its statement by holding the Endowments Authority and the Presidency of the Government responsible for the consequences and repercussions of such decisions, which require wisdom and consultation before issuing them.
