The president of the Bloc Républicain party, Abdoulaye Bio Tchané, proceeded this Thursday, May 9, 2024 at the Benin Royal Hotel, to the official launch of the first training session of the Party School. For two days, the deputies, substitutes and members of the National Executive Office of the party will strengthen their capacities in political communication.

Among the themes covered: “The political history of Benin, centered on the evolution of parliamentarism”, “General information on political communication”, “BR parliamentarian versus traditional media: the written press, the interview, the live broadcast, the interview television, televised debate, etc.”, and “The psychological aspects of political communication”. These themes aim to strengthen the skills of BR leaders to anchor the party on the national political scene and position it as the first major party. Experts such as Dr Expédit Ologou, MPs Nassirou Bako-Arifari and Malick Gomina, Hermès Gbaguidi, Dr Kossi Amèssinou and Bertin Koovi were mobilized for this training.

Reactions of the actors : After expressing the party’s thanks to the Institute for Democratic Governance (IGD) for its support for training within the Party School, President Abdoulaye Bio Tchané congratulated the participants. “I am happy to see that the room is full, which shows that each of us attaches great importance to training within our party. If we want to achieve our political goals, we must go through this school,” he stressed. He also insisted on the importance of the Party School for the political education of young people and women within the party. Representing the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD), Véronique Tonoukouen of the IGD, indicated that their support for this initiative aims to make political parties more inclusive, democratic, representative and efficient.

Between the lines : The Vice-President in charge of training at the Party School, Professor Nassirou Bako-Arifari, clarified that this training is intended for those who lead the party. He underlined the importance of political communication, emphasizing eloquence, argumentation and the search for audience support. For his part, Dr. Expédit Ologou traced the political history of Benin, noting that political parties were born in 1945 following the elections, with the first party being the Progressive Union of Dahoméen and the Territorial Assembly created in 1955.
