That phenomenon has grown so much that some people are talking about “Ozempic babies” and even a baby boom caused by the drug that would help women with fertility problems get pregnant.
“Significant overweight and obesity can be problematic for fertility. At that point, by losing weight, we find a certain fertility, regardless of the method,” explained Dr. Rémi Rabasa-Lhoret, endocrinologist at the Montreal Clinical Research Institute, in an interview with LCN.
However, the latter emphasizes that this phenomenon is accompanied by certain concerns, especially due to the lack of data regarding the effects of Ozempic on the fetus.
However, the expert mentions certain worrying data in the animals tested.
“Normally, you shouldn’t take Ozempic during pregnancy, but if you’ve ever been taking it and become pregnant without realizing it, it’s widely recommended that you stop the medication immediately,” says Dr. Rabasa – Lhoret.
“There is some animal data that shows it may inhibit fetal development,” he says.
The endocrinologist points out that other drugs like Ozempic may limit the effectiveness of oral contraceptives. He therefore recommends being alert and cautious when taking such medications.
