(ANSA) – VICENZA, MAY 10 – A large crowd of black feathers, from all over Italy, has invaded Vicenza today, the city that will host the 95th national Alpine gathering until Sunday. The solemn flag-raising ceremony, in the central Piazza dei Signori, officially opened the Alpini rally this morning. Among the most significant moments are the national anthem, sung by the entire square, and the musical notes of “Il Silenzio”. To honor the fallen of the Great War in the mountains of Vicenza, the ceremony took place in connection with the four shrines present in the province: the Leiten in Asiago, in Cima Grappa, on Monte Pasubio and on Monte Cimone, and with a station set up on Monte Ortigara, always in the Plateau, where the first historic gathering of the “black feathers” took place in 1916. The banner parades are scheduled for late afternoon today, followed by the banner parades, the Ana banner and the local “Monte Pasubio” Vicenza section. According to the organizers, the Ana 2024 gathering will attract between 400 and 500 thousand people to the city, one of the highest numbers ever. The historic center of the city will be a “red zone” for three days, prohibited to private traffic. Hotels and other accommodation facilities are sold out, but no beds can now be recovered even in gyms, association offices, sports groups, industrial warehouses (even at the Fair) and in parishes.
