Gasoline and diesel prices at gas stations, which had been skyrocketing, fell for the first time in seven weeks. This is due to the fact that international oil prices have fallen for nearly a month recently. Oil prices are expected to continue to decline for the time being, centering on gasoline.

According to Korea National Oil Corporation‘s oil price information service Offinet on the 11th, the average selling price of gasoline as of the second week of May was 1,711.7 won per liter (L), down 1.2 won from the previous week. Diesel price was 1,560.8 won, down 5.5 won from the previous week.

The average selling price by brand for gasoline was the cheapest at Thrifty Gas Station at 1,688.0 won, and GS Caltex Gas Station was the most expensive at 1,719.0 won. For diesel, the thrifty gas station had the lowest price at 1,535.1 won, and the GS Caltex gas station had the highest price at 1,570.3 won.

It is the first time in 7 weeks that gasoline and diesel sales prices have fallen simultaneously. Previously, in the first week of May, the price of diesel fell 0.5 won compared to the previous week, turning downward a week before gasoline.

As of the second week of May, the gasoline supply price was 1,630.4 won, down 20.7 won from the previous week, and the diesel price was 1,423.7 won, down 20.0 won from the previous week.

Gas station gas prices are expected to continue their downward trend for the time being. International prices of petroleum products move 2 to 3 weeks ahead of domestic prices, and international gasoline and diesel prices have been falling for the past four weeks in a row.

As the recent reduction in international gasoline prices was greater than that of international diesel prices, it is expected that domestic prices will also decline more strongly than diesel prices.

This week’s international oil price (Dubai oil) per barrel was $84.0, down $2.6 from the previous week. The international gasoline price (92RON) is $92.8, down $5.7 from the previous week, and the international diesel price (0.001% sulfur content) is $97.6, down $1.8 from the previous week.

An official from the Korea Petroleum Association said, “With the recent decline in international product prices of gasoline and diesel, there is a possibility that both domestic gasoline and diesel prices will fall in the next one to two weeks,” adding, “The decline in the price of gasoline may be greater than that of diesel.” said.
