BOLZANO. Today, Saturday 11 May, is World Fair Trade Day. The 13 Shops of the World of Alto Adige celebrated it in various cities and towns with solidarity breakfasts, tastings and quizzes.

The Fair Trade Town Meranoin collaboration with the Ritz hotel school, invited the winners of the “FairTrend” art competition to a fair and solidarity aperitif in the city on the Passirio: the Botteghe del Mondo of Alto Adige and the OEW organization for a world of solidarity have announced the 13th edition of this competition for middle school students on the topic of mirrors. A four-person jury chose the winning class 3B of the Vipiteno middle school, accompanied by Jolanda Tötsch. Second place went to the class 2B of the middle school of Bressanone and third to the class 2C of the middle school of Bressanoneboth led by Katharina Volgger.

They collected old mirrors from the attic, the cellar and the recycling center, studied fair trade criteria with their teachers, listened to the stories of producers from the Global South and gathered information in the Shops of the World. They then worked out various mirror concepts, procured suitable fabrics, paints, grains, beans, modeling clay, cardboard and got to work.

David Gschlisser from the Vipiteno middle school was the winner of the competition in the individual category.

Events were organized throughout the province to celebrate the Day: in Gardena at the Saut youth center in Ortisei a quiz and a fair breakfast, Brunico and Bolzano offered a fair aperitif with stories of fair trade organisations, the inhabitants of Vipiteno and Laces had the opportunity to start the day with a good coffee in good company in the Bottega del Mondo. It was also possible to taste the products of the Bottega del Mondo in Chiusa.
