During the meeting held on Friday, the Commissioner General of the Police, Renatas Požėla, and the Chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Lina Petronienė, discussed joint work on election days, exchanged available information and put together the final points regarding the coordination of actions during the elections and referendum.
“The police have already started preparations for the elections, the officers are constantly monitoring the public space, assessing possible threats. We are still strengthening the forces during the election weekend”, said the General Commissioner of the Police, Renatas Požėla, during the meeting.
According to him, police officers are in contact with the chairmen of municipal election commissions and precinct election commissions, and reserve pre-trial investigation teams have been formed to work with special incidents. Uniformed and non-uniformed officials will work on election day.
According to the chairman of the CEC Lina Petronienė, “the task of all the commissions organizing the voting is not only to conduct the elections smoothly and transparently, but also to maintain a constant focused vigilance, to cooperate with the officials in order to prevent any violations or conflict situations”.
During the meeting, it was also agreed that in case of necessity and a threat to the safety of persons or documents, the police will be ready to accompany the members of the election commissions so that the election documents are delivered to the destination safely.

The election of the President of the Republic and the referendum on the amendment of Article 12 of the Constitution will be held on May 12.
