jpnn.comJAKARTA – Deputy Chair of the MUI Advisory Council, Zainut Tauhid Sa’adi, said that the MUI believes that Bareskrim has strong evidence to name the leader of the Al-Zaytun Islamic Boarding School (Ponpes) Panji Gumilang as a suspect in embezzlement and money laundering (TPPU).

“MUI believes that the police have sufficient evidence to name PG (Panji Gumilang) as a TPPU suspect,” Zainut told reporters, Sunday (12/5).

Panji Gumilang has been named a TPPU suspect by Bareskrim with the first case in October 2023. Panji Gumilang was charged under Article 70 Jo. Article 5 of Law Number 28 of 2004 concerning Amendments to Law Number 16 of 2001 concerning Foundations and/or Article 372 of the Criminal Code Jo. Article 55 paragraph (1) 1st Criminal Code Jo. Article 56 of the Criminal Code Jo. Article 64 of the Criminal Code and Article 3 and/or Article 4 and/or Article 5 Jo. Article 10 of Law Number 8 of 2010 concerning Prevention and Eradication of the Crime of Money Laundering.

PPATK has also submitted the results of the Panji Gumilang transaction analysis to the Police Criminal Investigation Unit. From the results of the PPATK investigation, Panji Gumilang had trillions in transactions.

The transaction amounting to IDR 15 trillion includes funds entering and leaving the accounts of Panji Gumilang, the foundation and related parties.

Zainut respects the entire legal process carried out by Bareskrim against Panji Gumilang, including the alleged TPPU case.

Apart from that, his party also respects Panji Gumilang’s steps in submitting a pretrial.

“If PG files for a pretrial, I think that is normal. MUI respects PG’s legal efforts,” he said.
