/ Real Madrid FC submitted a complaint to the Spanish Public Prosecution requesting an investigation into the recently reported racist chants targeting its striker Vinicius Junior outside the Atletico Madrid and Barcelona stadiums before two Champions League matches this week.

Real Madrid said on Friday that it had asked public prosecutors to examine footage from security cameras outside the two stadiums “in order to identify the perpetrators of the violations.”

Yesterday, Thursday, Vinicius re-published a video clip showing Atletico fans jumping and chanting, “Vinicius is a chimpanzee,” before the team plays Inter Milan on Wednesday.

The video clip was initially published on the sports news website “Agenti Libre”.

There were also reports of hate chants directed at Vinicius before the Barcelona-Napoli match on Tuesday.

Spanish radio station Cadena Ser published a video clip in which Barcelona fans chanted, “Die, Vinicius,” before the team won 3-1.

The Spanish club said: “Real Madrid condemns these violent attacks of racism, discrimination and hatred against our player Vinicius Junior, which have unfortunately been a recurring and ongoing source of concern for some time.”

The Spanish League announced on Thursday that it would report hate crimes to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Vinicius, who has dark skin, was subjected to repeated racist insults during his team’s away matches in Spain, especially in the past two seasons.

In 2023, Atletico Madrid fans hung an effigy of Vinicius on a bridge in Madrid before the city derby match.

The prosecution then demanded that four-year prison sentences be imposed on the four fans whom the authorities accused of committing this act.
