Since April 18, the National Government has received 64 offers to install new emergency electricity generation that will serve to reduce the deficit that Ecuador is experiencing.

The offers are being analyzed, but the Regime is inclined to bring two generator ships.

For its part, the Ministry of Energy reported that the offers received propose floating generation, that is, with ships. One of them is for Ecuador to buy one of the boats and 12 offers to rent them. The other 50 proposals are to install fixed generators on land.

One of the proposals for floating generation is from Tura Karpowership, a company specialized in the construction of electricity generation ships.

Floating generation offer

It offers a range of generation ships up to 400 megawatts and also smaller ships up to 80 megawatts that are 90 meters long and 25 meters wide. One of those teams that offers to send to Ecuador is located in the Caribbean.

Technicians will evaluate

To find out the characteristics of this ship and other generators offered, technicians from the Ministry of Energy will travel next week to find out their availability and operating conditions.

The option handled by the Minister of Energy, Roberto Luque, seems to be the one that works the fastest. The Government’s plan is to have at least 160 megawatts in this way, which will be added to another 61 with new generators that will be installed in the Quevedo Dos and Santa Elena plants.

This way there will be more than 220 megawatts that the Government wants to have between September and October, to face the next dry season. Another 200 megawatts that are estimated to be required by that date will come – according to the Ministry of Energy – from the start-up of thermal power plants that to date are stopped due to damage.
