In the third phase of the upcoming Sixth Upazila Parishad elections, symbols will be allocated among the contending candidates on Monday (May 13). Then the election campaign will begin.

As per the law, campaigning will continue till 32 hours before the start of polling. Voting for this phase will be held on May 29.

Election Commission (EC) Election Management Wing officials said returning officers will allot symbols during office hours.

Shariful Alam said recently, 570 people in the position of chairman, 618 people in the position of vice chairman and 400 people in the position of female vice chairman in the third phase; A total of 1588 candidates filed their nomination papers. However, after selection, appeal, this number may vary.

Among the total candidates, there are five single candidates. There is a single candidate for the post of women vice-chairman in Chandnaish of Chittagong, vice-chairman and women vice-chairman in Bhandaria of Pirojpur, vice-chairman in Abhaynagar of Jessore and Chatak woman vice-chairman of Sunamganj.

This time the election commission is conducting polling in 476 upazilas out of 495 upazilas. Election time for 19 upazila parishads has not yet taken place, later voting will be held in all those parishads.

According to the schedule, in the first phase, as many as 145 upazilas voted on May 8. In the second phase, 160 upazilas will be polled on May 21, in the third phase in 112 upazilas on May 29 and in the fourth phase in 55 upazilas on June 5.
