“I will leave my name in the records of all competitions from now on.”

Choi Eun-woo (12, Naebalsan Elementary School 6), who won the boys’ elementary school 100m breaststroke final at the 96th Donga Swimming Championships held at the Gimcheon Indoor Swimming Pool in Gyeongbuk on the 12th with a competition record (1 minute 7.42 seconds), said, “I want to do better than I did before. Eat and play the game. “I’m happy to have achieved my goal,” he said. In the preliminaries held this morning, Eun-Woo Choi set a competition record of 1 minute 9.08 seconds and advanced to the finals in first place overall, then beat the record again in the afternoon finals. Choi Eun-woo, who set a competition record and won the 50m breaststroke preliminaries and finals on the 11th a day earlier, won two gold medals, setting the record for the most competitions (4) at the Dong-A Swimming Championships.

Two years ago, when she was in the children’s group (1st to 4th grades of elementary school), Eunwoo Choi looked the same as she did this year. Choi Eun-woo, who participated in the 50m and 100m breaststroke in the boys’ youth division in the 2022 competition when he was in the fourth grade of elementary school, won two gold medals, setting competition records in each race. Choi Eun-woo, who did not set a competition record last year in her first year as an elementary school student (grades 5 and 6), but took two gold medals, beating her older brothers by one year, set an overwhelming record this year and decorated the final of the elementary school division at the Donga Swimming Championships. Choi Eun-woo, who won the 50m and 100m breaststroke for three years in a row, collected a total of six gold medals from the Dong-A Swimming Championships during her elementary school days.

A gold medal received from the Donga Swimming Competition, which Eunwoo Choi participated in every year from 2022, when she was in the 4th grade of elementary school, until this year, when she was in the 6th grade. Choi Eun-woo, who always did her best at the Donga Swimming Championships, reduced the boys’ elementary school 100m breaststroke competition record by nearly 4 seconds from 1 minute 11.36 seconds (previous time) to 1 minute 7.42 seconds, and also reduced the 50m breaststroke record from 33.18 seconds (previous time). I pulled it off by about 1.5 seconds at 31.69 seconds. Choi Eun-woo said, “I consider the Donga Swimming Championships important as I have good memories from his first participation two years ago. So he was the only one among many competitions who participated every year without missing a single event. “I want to continue participating in the future and leave my name in the records of middle school, high school, and general competitions,” he said with a smile.

Choi Eun-woo, who started learning swimming at the children’s sports team at the age of 5, said she was especially interested in breaststroke. Breaststroke, also known as ‘frog swimming’, is less popular among swimmers because it has the most static movements compared to freestyle, butterfly, and backstroke, and has the slowest record when moving the same distance. But Choi Eun-woo thinks differently. He explained the reason why he fell in love with breaststroke, saying, “Freestyle, butterfly, and backstroke involve swinging your arms widely to move forward, but breaststroke is the only way to put both arms in front of you in the water, stretch them out, and then move your arms forward as if opening a door.” explained. He added, “I want to become a leading breaststroker in Korea in the future.”

And there is one reason why Choi Eun-woo needs to become better at swimming. In January of this year, I had a 12-year-old younger sister. After her younger brother was born, Choi Eun-woo said that she was helping her parents raise her child by feeding him formula and putting him to sleep, and that her affection for her younger brother was growing. He said, “By the time my younger brother enters elementary school, I will be the age of my older brothers who are currently leading Korean swimming. “At that time, I want to become a member of the national team and show a good performance in big competitions such as the Olympics so that my younger brother can boast to his friends that he is ‘our older brother.’”
