In Georgia, the third reading of the controversial law on foreign agents is expected today. During the weekends, more than 50 thousand people took part in the marches against the normative act.
People resent the so-called “Russian law”. According to him, any non-governmental organization that receives more than 20% of funding from abroad will have to be entered in a special register. Critics of the law argue that it will silence all opposition voices – as is happening in Russia.
According to the authorities, the normative act will guarantee transparency in the financing of the non-governmental sector. The government said they would arrest anyone who interfered with the work of parliament today.
The president of Georgia, Washington, as well as leaders of many European countries have spoken against the law. According to Brussels, the government’s initiative will jeopardize Georgia’s integration into the community. The country received the status of a candidate country for membership in the community at the end of last year, reports BNT.
