Paola Turci‘s shocking past between accident and operations: “For two years glass came out of my face”
For some years of his life, Paola Turci she found herself trapped in a nightmare. I have had thirteen operations: 12 in the eye alone, one on the cheek.”, the artist’s shocking story. Paola Turci took a really big risk due to an almost fatal distraction.
“That day I had called everyone. I was on the phone but it went off often. I looked at the phone plug for a moment. My driver shouted: watch out! […] The car overturned. I felt my whole face open like when the water hits your face in the shower, you felt the spurts of blood on your face. I immediately said to myself: Calm down. Feeling the open face and the blood was surreal,” the famous artist still remembers shaken.
Paola Turci and the terrible moments of the accident: “So I learned to accept my scars”
The issue of the accident and the consequent operations represent a sore point for Paola Turci, who however never held back from retracing that dramatic episode. An episode that caused her quite a few problems, even with herself. It wasn’t easy, in fact, to look in the mirror and accept the scars on her face.
“I had a thousand scruples, especially with men. I thought I was wrong, that I had to be sweeter otherwise I would scare them. But I always have been. If the man gets scared, the problem is his, not mine. The key was my impatience in hiding after the accident, pretending not to. At a certain point I gave up, I learned to accept myself and my scars.” he confided in a touching interview given to La Stampa, referring to the terrible moments of the accident that involved her in 1993.
