The General Traffic Directorate announced today, Monday, the imposition of a fine of 100,000 dinars on vehicles with unclear or damaged license plates, while it considered those who deliberately forged official documents, with a prison sentence of up to 7 years.

Director of Traffic Media and Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Ali Al-Hassoun, told the (INA): “The General Traffic Directorate adopts the legal formula regarding the issue of traffic plates, which stipulates that any citizen unintentionally places a plate that is unclear, damaged, or hidden and is difficult to see from the outside.” Before traffic detachments or smart cameras, a fine of 100,000 dinars will be imposed in accordance with the provisions of Article 25 of the Traffic Law.

He pointed out that “the law stipulates that whoever intentionally hides or distorts the traffic plate will be charged with forging official documents, since the plate is one of the official documents of the General Traffic Directorate,” stressing “the traffic’s determination to hold violators accountable in accordance with the provisions of Penal Code No. 111.” of the year 69, which includes referring the violator to the competent courts, and the penalty reaches 7 years in prison.”

Al-Hassoun called on “citizens who have unclear or damaged traffic plates to review the directorate, register, and submit a request for the purpose of doing the necessary procedures,” noting that “the modification and repair of the traffic plate is carried out exclusively by the directorate.”
