Yesterday, for the third consecutive day, the National Energy Control Center declared the Emergency Operational State in the National Interconnected System, due to the increase in energy consumption in the country due to high temperatures, with blackouts reported in states such as Edomex and Tamaulipas. .

In a press conference, the president of the electoral body stated that the INE has contracted emergency power plants, which will be tested in drills, so the operation of the PREP it is guaranteed.

The INE contracted 100 emergency plants to operate during the election day of June 2, most of them from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) for an amount of up to 20 million pesos.

In turn, the president of the INE He pointed out that the arrival of a Cold Front is expected in the coming days, so that could reduce high temperatures and reduce the possibility of effects on the National Electrical System.

Climate change is a reality and is here to stay, so the blackouts that occurred on Tuesday in part of the country could be “a typical scenario of a not-so-distant future” if there is no energy transition, warned the Institute researcher. of Renewable Energies of the UNAM, Osvaldo Rodríguez Hernández.

He expressed that the country has all the elements to begin preparing and covering the energy demand that will exist in the future.

In an interview, the specialist confirmed that the high demand for electrical energy, mainly for the operation of air conditioners in very hot regions, caused a consumption peak to be recorded on Tuesday that alerted the National Energy Control Center (Cenace).

Rodríguez Hernández considered that the generation of electricity is one of the most important decisions that are made in the country six years after six years, but that they require a strong investment, to, among other things, build transmission lines and that they are generally transexennial projects. .
