BNP is not participating in the four-phase Upazila Parishad elections. Still, more than two hundred leaders have been expelled from the party for participating in the election in violation of the party decision.

Only seven members of BNP won the post of chairman in the first phase of upazila parishad elections held on May 8. As a result, many who were candidates for the third phase of the election are now withdrawing their candidature, according to party sources.

Ignoring the party decision on May 29, Shah Md became the chairman candidate in Phulabaria upazila of Mymensingh. Alamgir. He was expelled from the party for participating in the election. Yesterday, Monday (May 13), he sent a letter to the Election Commission to withdraw his candidacy.

An organizing secretary of BNP, who did not wish to be named, told RisingBD that many expected to win in the first phase of the election. So, participated in the election. Actually in the first phase only 7 out of 143 upazilas (expelled leaders) won the post of chairman. As a result, in the next three phases, the leaders who disobeyed the party’s decision and ran for election, are now withdrawing their candidature out of fear.

This leader also said that although the exact number is not known, so far I have received information about the withdrawal of candidature of 6-7 people.
