How Anders Holch Poulsen became the richest man in two countries at once

by time news

Anders Holch Poulsen is the richest man in Denmark. And at the same time, and Scotland – The Sunday Times included the Dane in the list because he owns more than 1% of the land in Scotland. That’s more than the Queen of Great Britain and the Church of Scotland combined. His fortune, which Forbes estimates at $ 11.3 billion, Poulsen earned mainly in the clothing trade. He owns the Bestseller network, among whose brands are Only, Vero Moda, Selected Femme and a number of others.

But fate was cruel to him. In 1998, the Poulsens had to endure nine months of terror. An unknown person threatened to kill all family members if he was not paid 1 million pounds. He sent threatening letters signed with his initials, scrawled those initials on family members’ cars, and one day snuck into the house and left a threatening note next to the room where they slept. The police eventually tracked down the intruder. It turned out to be 34-year-old Kurt Hansen, who was found with a gun, three pairs of handcuffs, books on poisons and stocks of flammable liquid.
