On Tuesday, May 14, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said that the country had filed an application to intervene in South Africa’s lawsuit against Israel at the International Court of Justice. South Africa accuses the Jewish state of genocide against Palestinian Arabs in the Gaza Strip.
Maariv writes about this.
Turkey’s decision to intervene in the case was announced earlier this month when Minister Fidan announced he would join the case initiated by South Africa. This decision was made with the aim of taking action against Israel due to its military campaign in the Gaza Strip.
At a press conference with his Austrian counterpart, Minister Fidan said that Turkey condemns the “killing of civilians” in the Gaza Strip, allegedly committed by Israel.
The International Court of Justice is set to hold hearings this week to discuss new emergency measures against Israel. South Africa is trying to achieve them after Israel launched an operation in Rafah.
Last week it became known that Egypt, which is dissatisfied with the fact that IDF forces took control of the Rafah checkpoint, is also joining South Africa’s lawsuit against Israel. Cairo is trying to achieve a cessation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip.
Earlier, Kursor wrote that Qatar condemned Israel’s launch of the operation in Rafah. According to a senior Qatari official, the actions of Israeli troops in the area are harming the negotiation process for the release of the hostages.
