Chennai: தஞ்சை மாணவி The CBI has registered a case under Section 4 in the suicide case and has started an investigation.

A 17-year-old student of Michaelpatti Pure Heart School in Thanjavur district committed suicide last month. The student allegedly committed suicide by drinking poison after the warden told him to clean the school dormitory room. Controversy erupted when a video was posted on social networking sites claiming that a student had committed suicide after being forced to convert. The police arrested the hostel warden Sakaya Mary on the basis of the confession given by the student in this regard. A team from the National Commission for the Protection of the Rights of the Child came to Thanjavur to investigate.

Meanwhile, the student’s father Muruganantham filed a case in the Madurai branch of the High Court seeking transfer of his daughter’s suicide case to the CPCIT. Later, he demanded that the CBI investigate. Judge GR Swaminathan, who heard his case, remanded the student suicide case to the CBI for investigation.

The order was appealed to the Supreme Court on behalf of the Tamil Nadu government. The appeal came up for hearing on the 14th in the presence of Supreme Court Justices Sanjeev Khanna and Bila Trivedi. At that time, senior lawyers for the Tamil Nadu government, Mukul Rohatki and P. Wilson, appeared and said, “Student suicide is deliberately political. State police were not given the opportunity to investigate. The manner in which the CBI changed the investigation is also not correct. Therefore, the CBI should restrain the transfer order for investigation, ”they demanded.

The judges said, “In the first instance, let the CBI police investigate the matter as per the order of the Madurai branch of the High Court.” At the same time, the student’s father Muruganantham has to reply within 3 weeks in this ongoing appeal case by the Tamil Nadu government. ”

Senior Advocate Wilson, who intervened at the time, said the case was being prosecuted by the CPCIT. The court has ordered a CBI inquiry on the basis of which the lawyer requested a CBI inquiry during the trial. This is incorrect. Therefore, an interim injunction should be imposed. ”

Refusing to accept it, the judges said, “Do not see this as an issue of honor for the Tamil Nadu government. Let the CBI start the investigation‌. The case has been adjourned for 3 weeks. The judges have also accepted the petition filed by the school administration, the Pure Heart Board, seeking to involve themselves in the case.

In this situation, the CBI has registered a first information report regarding the student suicide. Cases are currently pending under sections 305 – incitement to suicide, 511 – attempted crime, and sections 75 and 82 (1) of the Juvenile Justice Act. A case has also been registered against the hostel warden, Comrade Mary.
