Many fans have commented on Twitter that they will boycott the Chennai Super Kings for the reason that they have selected Sri Lankan player Mahis Deekshana in the IPL auction.

In 2013, there were protests in Tamil Nadu against the Sri Lankan government. Some organizations have warned that they will not allow Sri Lankan players to play in the IPL. Following this, Jayalalithaa, the then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, wrote a letter to then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh asking him to instruct the IPL team organizers not to allow Sri Lankan players, umpires and officials in the IPL matches in Chennai. At that time there were two Sri Lankan players in the CSK team, Kulasekara and Akila Tananjaya. Following this, the IPL management team took a decision. Respecting the food of the local people, it was announced that the Sri Lankan team will not play for any team in the IPL matches to be held in Chennai.

In 2013, 11 Sri Lankan players participated in the IPL. But Kulasekara and Tananjaya did not play in any of CSK’s matches that year. Both will not feature on the CSK team next year.

In this situation, in the recent IPL auction, Sri Lankan spinner Mahis Deekshana was offered Rs. Chennai Super Kings team has selected for 70 lakhs. Following this, many people wrote posts on Twitter with the hashtag #BoycottCSK condemning the CSK team. Many have registered their opposition to the end of the ban imposed on Sri Lankan players in Tamil Nadu in 2013, saying that the CSK team has chosen the Sri Lankan player without respecting the sentiments of the Tamil people. Thus the hashtag #BoycottCSK became trending on Twitter.
