Bangalore: While colleges closed due to hijab issue in Karnataka were reopened today with heavy police security, students wearing hijab were not allowed into colleges today. The students were denied admission, citing the fact that the hijab case is pending in court.

Earlier in the day, the Karnataka High Court had ruled that “religious clothing, including the hijab and kavit piece, should not be worn in educational institutions.” Following this, schools were reopened for students up to 10th class last Monday. The students, who were wearing hijabs at the time, were detained outside the schools. They were allowed into the school only after removing the hijab.

In this context, today (Feb.16) all educational institutions including PUC, Charter Colleges, Polytechnic, Nursing were reopened. even today, Students wearing hijab Not allowed.

Discussion with teachers: Thus, “college teachers and students who wore hijab got into an argument with the principals. One of the college principals said, ‘We are following the High Court order. No hijab, burqa or khawi piece will be allowed to be worn inside the college.’ But the students did not move from there and shouted ‘justice is needed’. They also chanted that it was an insult to put themselves in a public place outside the gate and ask them to remove the burqa.

The controversy started on February 5: PUC (upper classes) and Charter College students were the first to protest on the 5th following the ban on Muslim students wearing the hijab in the state of Karnataka. The first school and college holidays were held on the 9th due to the violence. The school has been banned from holding protests near colleges on the 19th.

Meanwhile, as a precautionary measure, 144 restraining orders have been issued in Udupi, Shimoga and Mysore. Similarly, police security has been put in place near educational institutions. Home Minister Araka Gyanendra said, “Colleges have to be reopened as the exams are approaching. Clothing that expresses religious identity is prohibited. Students need to keep quiet so as not to get involved in the struggle again. Police will take action against those who violate the rules, ”he said.

Student Argument: Udupi Muslim students have filed a case in the Karnataka High Court against the denial of permission to wear hijab in schools and colleges in Karnataka. The case came up for hearing in the High Court yesterday in the presence of Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi, Justices JM Kashi and Krishna Dixit. Devadat Kamath, a senior lawyer representing the Muslim students at the time, said, “No one was harmed as the students wore the hijab. The state cannot interfere in the religious beliefs and personal rights of the people without compromising public order. According to Article 25 of the Constitution, a person has every right to practice his or her religious beliefs.

I used to wear rudraksha when I went to school. No one stopped it because of my religious beliefs. Even now the judges wear the rudraksha. Judges team this up according to their religious beliefs. In South Africa, a South Indian Hindu girl was banned from wearing a nose ring in class. In view of the student’s belief in the case against which it was pursued, he was granted permission to wear a nose ring. Similarly, a Canadian court has allowed a Sikh to wear a turban to study in class. Permission should be granted to wear hijab like this. The interim injunction imposed by the High Court should be withdrawn, ”he argued. Hearing this, the judges adjourned the next hearing to Wednesday.
