The Masjid festival at the Thiruchendur Subramania Swami Temple, the 2nd Battalion in the sacrificial houses of Lord Murugan, has been going on since the 7th with the flag hoisting. The election took place today (Wednesday), the 10th day of the festival.
The temple walk was opened at 5 am, Visvarupa Deeparathana at 5.30 am and Udaya Marthanda anointing at 6 am. It was followed by the peak show Therotam which started at 6.30 am.
The first chariot of Ganesha, the 2nd Swami Kumaravidanga with Lord Valli-Deyvanai and the big chariot and the 3rd chariot of Lord Ambal Ezhundarulum were the three chariots that floated on the four separate streets.
The election has not taken place for the last 2 years due to the corona. Today, 2 years after the election, a large number of devotees from Nellai, Thoothukudi and Kanyakumari districts as well as various parts of Tamil Nadu are attending the darshan. Devotees who stab the unit and take the cauldron are paying the fine. Heavy police security has been put in place ahead of the festival.
