Ukrainian attaché visited exercises in Belarus

by time news

The Ukrainian Defense Attache yesterday, February 15, visited an exercise in Belarus. Today, February 16, the Belarusian attache will come to Ukraine for exercises, said the head of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, Alexei Reznikov. The visits of the attaches were agreed upon after a conversation between the defense ministers of Ukraine and Belarus on February 14. The website of the Ukrainian embassy in Belarus says that the post of defense attache is occupied by Alexander Bolyuta.

Mr. Reznikov called the last conversation “very important” and noted that Minsk “is interested in maintaining good neighborly relations” with Kiev. According to him, the head of the Belarusian Defense Ministry Viktor Khrenin assured that “there are no threats from the territory of Belarus for Ukraine and there will not be.”

“We immediately took a number of steps to build confidence. Our defense attache visited the exercises in Belarus yesterday, today we will be hosting the Belarusian attaché at the exercises in Rivne,” the Ukrainian minister said (quoted by RIA Novosti).

During a telephone conversation, the defense ministers of Belarus and Ukraine discussed the resumption of cooperation in the military sphere, the existing “sore points”, as well as steps to strengthen the atmosphere of trust and security in the region. The conversation took place on the initiative of Kiev.

Recall that relations between the two countries again escalated against the backdrop of the situation with Ukraine and the allegedly planned “Russian invasion”. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko believes that the West wants to “drown the Russian-Ukrainian brotherhood in blood.” He said that a military conflict is possible only in the event of a provocation by Ukrainian nationalists.
