Corona new infections again at over 38,000

by time news

As in the past two weeks, the number of new infections reported on Wednesday is over 38,000. The SARS-CoV-2 virus was found in exactly 38,256 cases in the past 24 hours, but at 44 the number of deaths is twice as high as a week ago and the annual high. The number of Covid cases in hospitals is almost unchanged compared to yesterday at 2,232 (minus eleven), 201 of them are being cared for in intensive care units – three more than yesterday.

Overall, the infection process before the federal-state summit with the Gecko experts is relatively unchanged, but with slightly decreasing tendencies compared to the past two weeks. The seven-day incidence is now 2,384.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, compared to 2,560.7 last Wednesday. In a weekly comparison, however, the number of hospital patients increased by 176 and intensive care patients by 16, which means an increase of 8.6 percent in both sectors

The number of active cases stood at 309,150, again down more than 10 percent in a week. The 44 deaths in connection with a corona infection, on the other hand, mean the highest value so far this year, 178 deaths were registered in the past seven days, and the Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 14,471 deaths in Austria since the outbreak.

A total of 1,177,747 rapid PCR and antigen tests were reported in the past 24 hours, 878,199 of which were more meaningful PCR tests. The positive rate of the PCR tests was 4.4 percent. This 24-hour value is below the average for the past week (an average of 5.3 percent of the PCR tests positive).

10,562 vaccinations were carried out on Tuesday, the majority of which were third marks. This means that the number of vaccinations continues to decline, because a week ago there were 17,487 stitches – and still by far the lowest Tuesday value since the beginning of the year. According to the data from the e-vaccination card, a total of 6,785,209 people have already received at least one vaccination, 6,227,233 people and thus 69.7 percent of Austrians have valid vaccination protection.

In a comparison of the federal states, Vorarlberg is the one with the highest seven-day incidence of 2,864.5, followed by Carinthia, Upper Austria and Styria (2,723.6, 2,627.2 and 2,403.8 respectively). Lower Austria (2,386), Vienna (2,233.2), Tyrol (2,181.5), Salzburg (2,155.5) and Burgenland (1,727.6) follow.
