The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported a 19% drop in the number of new Kovid cases worldwide. Last week, more than 16 million new COVID-19 cases and 75,000 deaths were reported worldwide, according to the UN Health Agency.
Only the Western Pacific reports an increase in new weekly cases. An increase of about 19% is reported here. In Southeast Asia about 37% less cases were reported. Kovid deaths have risen to 38% in the Middle East and about a third in the Western Pacific.

The latest case of COVID-19 is in Russia. Cases in Eastern Europe and elsewhere have doubled since the Omicron outbreak. The World Health Organization says that variants, including alpha, beta, and delta, continue to decline globally. Of the more than 400,000 COVID-19 virus sequences uploaded last week, more than 98% are omicon.

The BA.2 version of Omicron is on the rise. The WHO said it had expanded its reach to South Africa, Denmark and the UK. However, in countries with high vaccination rates, hospitalization and mortality rates have not increased significantly, health officials said.
