Bangalore,

The state government has banned Islamic students from wearing the hijab in schools and colleges in Karnataka.

A case was filed in the Karnataka High Court challenging the ban and an interim injunction was issued against those who came to class wearing clothes expressing religious identities.

As a result, many Muslim students drop out of school and stay at home because they will not be allowed inside if they wear the hijab.

In this context, a new petition has been filed in the Karnataka High Court seeking permission for students to wear hijab in educational institutions during the Ramadan festival.

In a petition filed by a psychiatrist from Hubli, he said that in view of the fact that the hijab issue has caused a great deal of stress among all, students should be allowed to wear the hijab on Fridays and during the festive season of Ramadan.

With the petition being accepted by the bench, it seems that the petition will come up for hearing soon.
