In Styria and Upper Austria, the last of the three semester break seasons begins on Friday: around 350,000 students receive their school news there and start their week-long vacation. At the same time, the semester week ends for the approximately 340,000 students in Tyrol, Salzburg, Carinthia, Vorarlberg and Burgenland.

For those returning from vacation, the first week of school will bring changed mask rules from Monday: A week after the elementary schools, the mask requirement will also fall on February 21 at all other school types. However, mouth and nose protection (primary school, lower school) or FFP2 masks must be worn by older students and teachers on paths in the school building. From next Monday, school events such as ski courses should also be possible again. The obligation to test with two of the more meaningful PCR tests and one antigen test per week remains in place for the time being.
