India was not born in 1947, but hid during the Emergency wearing Sikh attire – Modi

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that India did not come into being in 1947. The Prime Minister made the remarks during a meeting with senior Sikh leaders at his residence in Delhi.

‘India was not born in 1947. Our gurus have made many sacrifices. We suffered a great deal during the Emergency. I was in hiding at the time. “I was hiding in the guise of a Sikh at the time,” he told Sikh leaders.

The Prime Minister blamed the Congress for failing to make the Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara, a Sikh shrine, part of India during the Partition of 1947. They could not reach an agreement with Pakistan to keep the gurudwara in India, which is only six kilometers away from Punjab.

He sought to do so through diplomatic relations. Whenever he came to Punjab, he used to look at the gurudwara through a telescope. Then his mind told him to do something. With the blessings of the Gurus we were able to make a decision in that regard. “We would not be able to do this without God’s blessing,” he said.

The Prime Minister also pointed out that the holy book Guru Granth Sahib was brought to India from Afghanistan. The Prime Minister had lunch with the Sikh leaders and honored them with shawls.
