Kolkata: Bihar youngster Zakibul Gani has become the first cricketer in the world to score a triple century in his debut match in first-class cricket. Saqibul Ghani scored 341 for Bihar against Mizoram in the Ranji Trophy. Zakib broke Ajay Rohera’s record of 267 not out in his debut match for Madhya Pradesh in the 2018-19 season, the highest score in his first – class debut. Rohera’s performance was against Hyderabad.

Bihar declared their first innings at 686/5 with the help of Saqibul’s triple century and Babul Kumar’s double century. Mizoram were 40/3 at stumps on the second day.

Zakib, who reached the crease in the fifth over, hit 341 off 405 balls with 56 fours and two sixes.

The 22-year-old Gani hit a triple century off 387 balls. It was with 50 fours. He scored 200 off 300 runs with a boundary.

With Babul Kumar (229) scoring a double century, Zakib put on 538 off 756 balls for the fourth wicket.

Zakib and Babul put on a second-highest partnership for the fourth wicket in Ranji Trophy history yesterday. Vijay Hazare and Gul Mohammad, who scored 577 runs in the 1946-47 season, topped the list.

The Babul-Zakib alliance also holds the record for the third highest partnership in the Ranji Trophy. Gugale and Ankit Bowne’s unbeaten 594 for the first time in the 2016-17 season’s dream for Maharashtra.
