The background to the incident is the aviation crisis with the UAE over security arrangements, which forced El Al to cancel some of the flights and concentrate three flights for one flight on a large Dreamliner.
According to a report on the Ynet website, passengers on a flight to Israel claimed that Rivlin had behaved in a manner that was inappropriate for his status. Rivlin was due to return to the country with his partner and 13 other travelers who visited Dubai, and was given two seats in the business class – but was angry that they were not sitting together as he had ordered.
Passengers on the flight told Itamar Eichner of Ynet that in protest, “Rivlin went to the end of the plane and sat in a seat belonging to the flight attendants at the end of the plane, and then sat on the flight attendants’ seat at the beginning of the plane – all while his security guards went back and forth.”
They added: “Rivlin was nervous, spoke inappropriately to the flight attendants and behaved childishly, he was really angry.”
Rivlin did not respond to a request for comment, and El Al also preferred not to comment.
