Thiruvananthapuram: The indefinite strike of the left trade unions in KSEB (KSEB) is over. The government gave in to the protesters and promised to withdraw the order issued on SISF security deployment. SISF Security will reduce the KSEB headquarters to two offices only. It was also decided to exclude the SISF from the premises, including the gates, the main entrance and the chairman’s office. The unions said they had been assured of further discussions on the issues raised. No action will be taken against the striking workers.

Minister K Krishnankutty said that the KSEB workers’ strike was a historic victory. The Chairman, Board and staff work for KSEB itself. The minister said the grievances of both the groups would be investigated and resolved. Changes in electricity tariffs are under discussion. The plan is to reduce electricity during the day and increase it at night. It will benefit the industrialists. The minister also explained that it is not possible to increase the night rate. The Supreme Court order to implement the lineman promotion will be implemented within two weeks. The Minister said that he has given instructions to the KSEB Chairman in this regard.

The CPM leaders intervened to end the strike as the indefinite agitation by the Left trade unions under the Left government grew to the point where it even affected the unity of the Front. KSEB land inspection in Ponmudi was blocked by MM Mani’s nephew

The Revenue-Survey team was stopped from inspecting the revenue outcrop land leased by KSEB near Idukki Ponmudi Dam. VA Kunjumon, president of Rajakadu Service Co-operative Bank and son-in-law of former minister MM Mani, was detained. Bank president VA Kunjumon said the inspection would not be allowed without the presence of KSEB officials. Udumbanchola tehsildar said that he would go ahead with the survey by informing KSEB.

The report also said that as the re-survey was not carried out in Rajakadu village, the survey documents should be examined in detail.
