Removed from the position of Vice Chairperson
Thiruvananthapuram: Culture Minister Saji Cherian has told Kerala Kaumudi that although Binapole has been removed from the post of Vice Chairperson of the Kerala Film Academy, she will continue to be the Artistic Director of the International Film Festival (IFFK). The chairman was replaced by the vice-chairman as his term had expired.
Actor Prem Kumar has been appointed as the Vice-Chairperson of the Film Festival while Binapole was active in the activities of the film festival which will be held from March 18 to 25. Prem Kumar is a member of the Board of Directors of the Academy. I know it will happen later.
Unexpected
The removal of Beena Paul, the backbone of the IFFK, from the position of Vice Chairperson has come as a shock to filmmakers. Beena was also the one who introduced film talents like Kim Ki Dook to the Malayalee audience. It is doubtful whether Beena will continue to exist after IFFK. Except for a break at IFFK, Binapole has been leading the activities of the film festival for a long time.
