British musician, former member of The Beatles Paul McCartney will headline the famous Glastonbury Music Festival in 2022. This was reported on February 20 by The Sun newspaper.

The event will take place from 22 to 26 June.

It is noted that the musician will become the oldest star ever to head this festival. McCartney turns 80 a week before the speech.

He last headlined at Worthy Farm, Somerset in 2004 and was scheduled to headline the Glastonbury Festival 2020, however the concert was canceled due to COVID-19.

According to The Sun, McCartney will play on Saturday evening, June 25, after performances by British musician Noel Gallagher and singer Haim. Singer Billie Eilish will perform on Friday, while American rap artist Kendrick Lamar will close the festival on Sunday.

There has been some discussion about whether McCartney should perform this year as the COVID-19 situation remains fluid. However, the musician decided that he really wants to take part in the festival, reports the Daily Mail on Sunday.

Earlier, on October 11, it was reported that McCartney, in an interview with The Guardian, said that The Beatles had broken up due to the fault of John Lennon. It is noted that the conflict between the musicians of the group occurred more than 50 years ago. For a long time it was believed that McCartney became the initiator of the collapse of the team, since in an interview published in April 1970, he was the first to report this.

At the same time, the musician emphasized that the breakup of the group was the most difficult period in his life. McCartney is convinced that The Beatles would have lasted much longer if Lennon had not left the group.
