The turnout in the Nilgiris urban local elections will take place on Tuesday. Thus heavy police security has been put in place.
Security rooms
Urban local government elections were held on the 19th for 291 ward member posts in 4 municipalities and 11 municipalities in the Nilgiris district. A total of 1,253 candidates contested as political party candidates and independent candidates.
99 thousand 104 male voters, one lakh 2 thousand 363 female voters and a total of 2 lakh 468 male voters cast their ballots in this election.
After the election, voting machines were stacked ward-wise in security rooms at 15 counting centers in 13 local bodies.
Number
The security rooms were subsequently sealed and 3 layers of police security were put in place. In rotation the police are engaged in security work. The vote count will take place from 8 a.m. Tuesday.
All arrangements for this have been made. Ox Municipal Counting Center Rex High School has 9 counting tables.
A table was set up to count postal votes. Electoral Officers and Assistant Returning Officers are to oversee the counting of votes and announce the election results.
600 police security
Vehicles of candidates and agents are not allowed to enter the ground. Barriers are set up with poles to get them to go one way or the other.
They will be allowed inside after showing the letter of approval received from the Returning Officer. Toilets, drinking troughs and basic amenities have been set up at the counting center.
There is a separate TV set in the ground to know the election results. Candidates can find out by looking at it. As many as 600 policemen will be deployed on security duty in the run-up to the polls.
183 appointments
According to election officials, counting is taking place today at 15 counting centers in the Nilgiris. For this 61 tables are set up and counted round wise.
At one table, there are 3 people working as the counting officer, supervisor and assistant. 183 people have been appointed for the counting of votes. Only ID card holders will be allowed inside.
