About a hundred candidates from the left and from the parliamentary majority around French President Emmanuel Macron are refusing to appear in the second round of the parliamentary elections in order to oppose the extreme right, reported France Press.

In 306 constituencies out of a total of 577 across the country, there are three candidates each going to the second round. There are even four candidates in five districts. Of these 311 districts in which there are more than two candidates for the second round, 161 districts are led by candidates of “National Assembly” or their allies.

Among those who refused to appear in the second round at this stage are predominantly representatives of the left “New People’s Front”. For example, in Normandy, a left-wing candidate dropped out in favor of Macron’s former prime minister, Elisabeth Borne. In some cases, candidates from the presidential coalition also refuse.

The goal is to support that candidate who will oppose the candidate of the “National Assembly” in the remaining tandem of contenders in the respective district, writes BTA.
