Under which law are young children being locked up? Lahore High Court angry with police

(From Malik Ashraf) Lahore High Court has expressed its indignation at the police for arresting minors, the court has expressed its displeasure over the response given by the concerned departments regarding the arrest of children.

Regarding the arrest of young children, Justice Ali Zia Bajwa expressed his anger on the police and said that under which law children under the age of 18 are being locked up in police stations, under the Juvenile System Act, a young child Cannot be arrested.
The court remarked that minor children cannot be kept in police stations, special centers were to be built for this, why not special centers were built to keep accused children below 18 years of age, general cases under the Juvenile System Act. In SHO can take bail of young children, the court expressed dissatisfaction with the response submitted by the concerned departments regarding the arrest of children.
Justice Ali Zia Bajwa said in his remarks that why the committees which were formed at each district level have not been formed till date. The court issued notices to the parties including the federal government, IG Punjab, IG Jails. Adat has ordered the senior officers of the concerned departments to appear in person at the next hearing.
Justice Ali Zia Bajwa issued an order on Rehana Bibi’s request for recovery of the child, and issued a show cause notice to the petitioner and her lawyer for contempt of court for misrepresentation.
In the Lahore High Court, the case of recovery of a ten-year-old child from police custody was heard. The petitioner woman approached the court for the recovery of her 10-year-old grandson.
The police took a stand that the child was arrested in a theft case, not in illegal detention. Advocate General Shahid Nawab Cheema appeared.
