Warren Buffettthe legendary investor and one of the richest men in the world, has revealed his plans for donate his vast fortune to a new charitable foundationwhich will be overseen by his children. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), Buffett, 93, shared details about how his philanthropic legacy will be managed after his death.
With nearly $130 billion in Berkshire Hathaway stock, Buffett ranks tenth on the list of richest people from Forbes. Throughout his life, has donated more than half of its sharesa large portion of which went to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. However, Buffett has indicated that his contributions to the foundation will cease upon his death.
Buffett expressed absolute confidence in the ability of his three children, Susie (71), Howie (69) and Peter Buffett (66), to manage his fortune. “I feel very, very good about the values of my three children and I have 100 percent confidence in how they will carry things out,” Buffett told the WSJ.
Buffett’s children will have to decide unanimously which philanthropic causes the money will go to. Although he has not given specific orders on the use of his legacy, Buffett emphasized that the children will funds should be used to help less fortunate people.
“It should be used to help people who have not been as fortunate as us (…) There are 8 billion people in the world, and my children and I have been in the 100 percent luckiest of the 1 percent. There are many ways to help people,” he said.
From 2006 to 2023, Buffett donated $39.3 billion to the Gates Foundation. Despite his immense generosity, he has decided that his philanthropic legacy will take a new direction under the supervision of his children.
