The Israeli retail chain is currently considering reducing or completely eliminating the discounts provided to members of the Hever consumer club.

This information was reported by TheMarker, citing its own sources.

There are concerns in the industry that such a move could lead to a reduction in discounts for club members at other chains.

The Hever Club has been in existence for 20 years and is intended for permanent IDF servicemen, IDF retirees and security forces personnel. Approximately 200,000 people are members of the club, receiving a 6% discount on purchases at Yesh Bashkhuna, Shufersal Dil and Shufersal Online. At Shufersal Sheli and Shufersal Express, the discount reaches 9% when paying with a club credit card.

Until early 2022, Shufersal was the only grocery chain cooperating with the Hever club. However, the Yainot Bitan chain then also entered into an agreement with the club, providing a discount of 6-8%. This agreement also applies to branches of the Carrefour chain.

According to retail trade estimates, high discounts for Hever club members make cooperation with the club unprofitable for retail chains. Membership conditions in the chain’s consumer club, intended for all customers, have also worsened.

At the end of April, Shufersal cancelled the virtual coin accumulation program for its 2 million club clients. In August 2023, the company informed clients that it was working on a new benefit program, but the exact date of its introduction remains unknown.

Earlier, Shufersal announced that it would stop offering discounts on home delivery of groceries that were previously in effect. Now the price for delivery for all customers will be fixed at NIS 29.90.

In addition, we wrote that Israeli supermarkets are on the verge of closing.
